Nick Clegg MP Nick Clegg MP, Shadow Home Secretary, Liberal Democrats
Clegg started his career as a journalist, winning the Financial Times David Thomas Prize. In 1994, he took up a post as a development aid and trade expert in the European Union, before being elected to the European Parliament in 1999, serving as Trade and Industry spokesman for the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe. Elected MP for Sheffield Hallam in 2005 and Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary in 2006, Clegg has spearheaded the Liberal Democrats’ defence of civil liberties. He is currently a candidate for the leadership of his party.
